Primary Content:
This collection comprises of over 127,000 half plate / large format monochrome negatives, most of which are currently stored in old biscuit tins held within Liverpool Central Library. The work was taken by the Liverpool photographer Edward Chambre Hardman (1898-1988) over a 40 year period, starting in the early 1920's. The portraits mainly depict people from the communities in the North West of UK, specifically Merseyside and the collection spans WW2, so therefore contains many portraits of servicemen and women.
As part of a research project run through Manchester Metropolitan University I have digitised the 11 accompanying studio registers for this collection, which detail the names of who the 127,000 sitters were. Contact me directly to run searches on this data.
