This is a collection of medium format black & white negatives which are the product of Allison studio's, Armagh, Northern Ireland during its ownership by Ernest Scott, (1950 - 1980).
Subject matter is mostly portraiture, weddings and social events including photographs of local businesses and institutions, for example, events for both Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland churches, local schools, community groups and institutions such as Armagh Observatory. The collection is substantial, with an estimated 350,000 images arranged chronologically beginning c1950 and ending in the late 1970s. Most of the images centre on Armagh city (perhaps 75%) and its environs but most counties in Northern Ireland are represented on some level as well as many locations in the Republic of Ireland. Ernest Scott worked as a Customs Officer and his wife Mary Scott was responsible for an unknown proportion of the photos taken before 1970.
